Progress report

After a weekend away last week it was time to get things moving again & I finally faced my fear & got that centre section trailing edge block sanded into shape as well as adding the ply wing joiners & sub-leading edge.

I got the left hand wing finished up to the same point as the right & then I did a little bit more work
on the centre section & also built the aileron for the right hand wing.

It needs some shaping done on the wing bolt blocks but it's nearly time to glue the top sheeting on & add the leading edge block. After that it will be time to join the three wing sections together!

More wing work

I did a little more construction on the right hand wing last night & it's coming together nicely....I still need to get onto finishing the centre section but I'm not looking forward to the mammoth sanding & shaping job that lies ahead!

Eddie is now waiting patiently in the background ready to serve his country!

Greg W shows off some very nice wing work!

The fuse (plus beer) is coming along very nicely too!

Greg G has been away but I expect a flurry of activity upon his return!

The arrival of Eddie!

There can be no "maiden" flight without a pilot so fortunately Captain Eddie has arrived!

Check him out in all his glory in both video & still photography below:

Seems such a shame to have to decapitate him but I'll try to reset the position of the arms so he can appear to be holding the stick!

Progress update

A week of too much work & not enough plane building meant no updates.....

However, during the week the Spektrum AR600 receiver arrived along with 5 x Hitec HS-325HB servos:

With a weekend of bad weather I was able to finally get onto building the wing centre section:

Supervising the build is Eddie, who hasn't arrived in person just yet but is on his way:

To assist the creative building process is a perfect beer: "Wingwalker American" Belgian Style Wheat Ale.....thanks to Greg W for the introduction!

Still have to complete the wing centre but for now onto the outer wing panels....

That will be that until tomorrow night!

Building commences

All three of us got stuck into building this weekend & everything went together reasonably well...

Workbench

Fin & rudder

Tailplane

Elevators

Tail feathers complete minus hinges & final sanding

Sheeting for the wing centre piece
Planning meeting with Greg W

Greg W's completed tail feathers

Greg G shows great skill for a first time builder!

Then jumps into the fuselage & ahead of the pack!

Preparation

The kit & the engine arrive.

The engine is an OS FS-62V which should suit the look of the plane nicely!

Nice!

Engine or work of art?

As a life long Iron Maiden fan I've decided that my Pete 'n Poke will be piloted by Eddie!

The Background Story

When I started modelling there was no such thing as ARF; after getting back into RC planes after a 15 year break things have changed a little......The Hangar 9 Saratoga takes only a few hours to get into the air...

However, I still wanted to build something from a 'box of sticks'!

Luckily a couple of guys in my club were of a similar mindset & so began:

"The Great Pete 'n Poke Build of 2012"!

I'll be reporting my progress & posting lots of photos of my build along with some photos of the other PNP's as they come together.

The idea is to maiden them together & them attempt some sort of formation flying......
